Why I'm not able to activate JMobile PC Runtime license on industrial PC?

What to know

Enhanced Write Filter (or EWF) is a component of Windows XP Embedded and Windows Embedded Standard 7 which stores volume changes on another media instead of applying them to the original volume.

If the EWF component is enabled on the industrial PC, after the activation of the JMobile Runtime PC license, the license file will be available only until the PC power off, then all the changes will be discarded and will be necessary to activate the license again at next power up.
This FAQ explains how to successfully activate JMobile PC Runtime license if EWF is enabled.

What to do

Verify if the EWF is enabled on the industrial PC, if the filter is enabled follow the steps below. This procedure allows to permanently store the license file on disk keeping the EWF component running, protecting the system against unwanted disk writes.:

  • Disable the EWF component
  • Reboot the system
  • Activate the JMobile Runtime PC license (refer to user manual for more info about licensing)
  • Reboot the system. The license file will be saved on the original volume
  • Enable the EWF component
  • Reboot the system

NOTE: For more info about the enable/disable EWF commands, please refer to this FAQ:
